Blackwood Box

Meat Market’s Blackwood Box is a new flexible black box theatre and rehearsal hall for performing arts and events in the Flat Floor Pavilion. The upgrade has been led by Creative Victoria and features an acoustically treated interior. The Blackwood Box can be configured to suit everything from creative development, rehearsal and performance, to sit down meals.

Featuring an open space free of pillars, the venue transforms into the perfect backdrop for dance, music, markets, fairs, theatre, conferences, meetings, dinners, and any other creative event. floor.

  • A Venue Supervisor is required for all hours that the building is open to the public.
  • Evening and weekend access to the venue will also require a Venue Supervisor.
  • The venue operates with a strictly enforced 11pm curfew. At 11pm house lights are turned on and all amplified sound must stop.
Meat Market Pavilions have a centrally located kitchen available for hirer use. Including an industrial oven with a six-burner stove top, and large freezers and fridges. Cobblestone Pavilion

Meat Market’s Cobblestone Pavilion is a magnificent space steeped in history. Accommodating up to 600 people, the interior features original cobblestone flooring and unique period detailing combined with modern technical equipment to meet contemporary requirements. Food and beverage service is made easy with its dedicated commercial kitchen and bar area.

The Cobblestone Pavilion is one of few venues in Melbourne with a custom-made circus truss, allowing hirers to orchestrate intricate circus, aerial and creative performances. Meat Market’s exhibition space, the Stables, contains polished concrete floors, high ceilings, exposed original brick, white walls and large windows.

Meat Market’s Stables has a total capacity of 180 persons. If over 100 people are in the space, one roller door must remain open to facilitate access requirements.

As a venue with a primarily arts focus, our time is dedicated to assisting with venue spaces for public outcome arts and community hires. We are unable to accommodate bookings for private functions and have a strict no weddings, birthdays or private celebration policy.

Yes, Meat Market has a total ban on the following: open flames, pyrotechnics, glitter and confetti. Please note, smoking ceremonies are welcomed at Meat Market as an exception to our open flame ban. However, we ask that all materials are lit while outside of the venue and brought inside to complete the ceremony.
