Educational Workshop | How to Build a Universe
10 July, 2021, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This workshop offers a unique way for children (of all ages) to construct, investigate and play with the ideas of architecture and urban design. Repurposing trash (recycled materials) to construct imagined buildings that then combine to create and imagined city. Utilizing discarded materials (bottle tops, cartoons and packaging) the workshop will look at waste management, engineering, construction and manufacturing productions – all the things that go into the development of our built environment. The workshop aims to stimulate a re-imagining of the way we use materials and to look at (appreciate) disposables in a new way.
Materials will be provided though we do invite participants to bring along home-sourced recyclable too (cartoons, bottles, lids, string, elastic bands, packaging). By collecting materials for the workshop from home, the community can gain a more holistic understanding of their own impact on the Earth (through what’s being thrown away at home) and of their personal part to play in sustainability (through recycling, reducing, and reusing).
