Meat Market Studios are offered for long-term hire and come in a range of different sizes, with a variety of communal and individual features.

Kensington Town Hall Studio Space

Kensington Town Hall contains a ground floor studio space available for short-term lease and residencies. Fitted with semi-sprung floors throughout, the Studio is an ideal space for rehearsals or small-scale performances and is filled with natural light from two large north-facing windows.

Co Culture Communication specialises in anti-oppressive relational design through creative practice. Co Culture was established in 2017 by Tuvaluan-Irish psychotherapist, broadcaster, artist and scholar Leah Manaema Avene and has since provided training, supervision, facilitation and resource design and development for individuals, organisations and community groups around the world.

Meat Market Studio Tenants: Chamber Made

Chamber Made cultivates adventurous multi-artform practice to disrupt and rewrite conventions of live performance. The company, led by acclaimed performance-maker Tamara Saulwick, has presented more than 100 performance seasons, commissioned over 56 new Australian works and won multiple awards since it was founded in 1988.

Cleopold

Meat Market Studio Tenants: Cleopold

Cleopold is a songwriter and performer from Melbourne, Australia. He has toured extensively through Australia, Europe, and North America in support of his latest single ‘Higher’ on Tabloid Recordings, and has shared the stage with artists like Phoenix, Nosaj Thing, Com Truise, Aluna George, Nick Murphy, Chet Faker, Flight Facilities and Miami Horror.

David Vadiveloo

Meat Market Studio Tenants: David Vadiveloo

David Vadiveloo is a screen director/producer, human rights lawyer, educator, and the founder and director of the social justice change agency Community Prophets. David’s multi-awarded screen works include ABC TV’s Us Mob series (the world’s first interactive Indigenous children’s series), the AFI and ADG nominated Burn and Voices from the Cape and the internationally acclaimed short, Bush Bikes.

Dianna Wells

Meat Market Studio Tenants: Dianna Wells

Dianna Wells is an artist and graphic designer based in Naarm (Melbourne) utilising hand-printed analogue photography, lumen prints, and digital processes. Her practice investigates the transitions and tensions that arise from changes to the landscape. Working closely with plants and botanic specimens, her work communicates vulnerability and the potential for healing and regeneration.

Gina Perry

Meat Market Studio Tenants: Gina Perry

Gina Perry is a freelance writer whose work has been published in a range of publications including The Age, New Scientist and Best Australian Science Writing. She is author of the acclaimed books Behind the Shock Machine and The Lost Boys: Inside Muzafer Sherif’s Robbers Cave Experiment (Scribe), and her debut novel My Father the Whale was published by Harper Collins in June 2023.

Audrey Lam

Audrey is a filmmaker. Her films have been widely screened at film festivals and cultural institutions locally and internationally. She has co-curated film seasons at ACMI, NGV, AGNSW and GoMA. Her first feature film Us and the Night had its Australian premiere at the 2024 Melbourne International Film Festival where it was nominated for the Blackmagic Design Australian Innovation Award.

James Saunders

I am an actor and writer. As an actor, I have performed with the Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company, Company B Belvoir, Bell Shakespeare Company, Playbox, Eleventh Hour and La Mama, and in several international festivals throughout Europe and USA. Film credits include The Turning, and Animal Kingdom and TV credits: Offspring, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Winners and Losers, City Homicide, Neighbours, Wilfred, Blue Heelers and Stingers.

Orchestra Victoria

Orchestra Victoria is a world-class opera and ballet orchestra. Jane Burns

Jane Burns is an award-winning visual artist and environmental educator. Since 2022,Jane has produced handwoven tapestries created on a TC2 Jacquard loom and her recent series of work, Movement (Arrest), was produced using this technology.

Arlo Mountford

Over the past 20 years Arlo Mountford has developed an extensive practice, exhibiting nationally and internationally whilst primarily being based in Naarm (Melbourne) Australia. His work spans a wide field of mediums, often resulting in large scale installations which integrate sound, video, digital animation as well as object-based work, drawing and photography. Conceptually his practice is preoccupied with history and time, both as a burden to, and as a resource for contemporary art making.

Tim Shiel

Meat Market Studio Tenants: Tim Shiel

Tim Shiel is an electronic musician, games composer and radio broadcaster based in Melbourne, Australia. Tim’s work includes writing the score for the award-winning mobile game Duet and Game Loading: Rise of the Indies. He has released a series of albums and EPs both under his own name and his previous alias ‘Faux Pas’ and has been a key member of Gotye’s touring band since 2011.

Vincent Lamberti

Vincent is a Documentary Director and Cinematographer. As a Director, his ABC documentary Intervention won the Documentary Australia Foundation Award for Best Australian Documentary. His recent credits as a Cinematographer include ABC documentaries Keeping Australia Alive, Sleep Matters (Catalyst) and China’s Artful Dissident, SBS series Filthy Rich & Homeless and feature documentaries The Opposition and Call me dad.

Wild at Heart

Wild At Heart is a driving force for people who experience injustice and exclusion to tell their stories through original music and lead change for equitable access in culture and society. Through mentoring, workshops, training and opportunities, Wild At Heart supports a vibrant community of around 100 artists from all over Victoria who live with visible and invisible disability, mental illness, neuro and gender diversity and disadvantage.

The Victorian Woodworkers Association Inc is the leading woodcraft guild in Victoria. Its diverse membership includes professional designer/makers and wood artists, serious amateurs, students, and industry organisations. Jane Clifton is the genuine show-business all-rounder. Actress, singer, writer and registered marriage celebrant, Jane is often asked if there is anything she can’t do, to which she simply replies, ‘Ballet and making money.’ She has carved out a 4-decade-long show-business career including; a string of minor roles in early Australian TV shows, Division 4, Homicide, Ryan, Bluey and Holiday Island; fronting the ground-breaking feminists-on-countdown band STILETTO; being part of the smash-hit stage shows MUM’S THE WORD and MENOPAUSE – THE MUSICAL; 10 pop music singles; and 3 published crime novels – Half Past Dead (Text 2002), A Hand in the Bush (Text 2005) Flush (Clandestine Press 2013) – and a memoir – The Address Book ( Penguin 2011).

Emily Bitto is an award-winning writer of fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. Her debut novel, The Strays, was shortlisted for the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for and won the Stella Prize in 2015. Emily’s fiction, poetry and non-fiction has appeared in various publications, including Meanjin, Island, The Age, The Saturday Paper, The Big Issue, and The Sydney Morning Herald.
