Unintended Consequences: How tech ate the world and how we can get it back

So what if the tech companies of the future can learn from the lessons of today?

When billion-dollar tech giants like Google and Facebook were starting out, no one anticipated the scale of unintended, negative consequences of digital technology, where filter bubbles, election interference and online trolling would thrive alongside the benefits that these same technologies have brought to how we live, work and play.

Keynote speaker, Raina Kumra, is leading an ethical revolution to change the future of our technologies. Raina wants to encourage the tech industry to be a better version of itself, with ethical considerations built into every product pitch.

As entrepreneur-in-residence for the Omidyar Network – a Silicon Valley impact investment firm, established in 2004 by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam – Raina has developed an ethical toolkit for the Twitters of tomorrow to help them get there. The Ethical OS is the result of a partnership between the Institute of the Future and the Omidyar Network’s Tech and Society Solutions Lab. It helps tech companies look at the unintended consequences of their products, ensuring that what they’re building is as good for the world as it is for their bottom line.

Join Raina as she explores a roadmap for the whole ecosystem, from boards and engineers to consumers and brands, to advocate for ethical and thoughtful technology for our future.
