The Future of Toys – MKW
2 May, 2021, 10:00 am - 3:30 pm
In this workshop, children will explore their creativity as they turn old toys into something new.
How long does it take for kids to get bored with new toys? According to surveys by the British Heart Foundation, the novelty often wears off in just 36 days. At this workshop children (aged 7–12) can focus on a future that inspires by turning pre-loved toys into new objects.
Children are invited to bring along a pre-loved toy that they have a connection with. Working with industrial designers and artists, children will disassemble their toys and learn about the materials they are made from and how they are made. Imagining their future, they will then design an invention that helps to bring this future into reality, using textiles, plastics and other materials from their old toy to build a new toy.
An exhibition including photography and new toys created by children in previous workshops will also be on display at the Meat Market Hub from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 2 May.
