Reflections of a Decaying World

Teague Leigh

Seeing ourselves in nature: Reflections of a Decaying World

What if seeing ourselves intrinsically entwined with nature encouraged us to reverse the effects of climate destruction? “Reflections of a Decaying World” uses Teague Leigh’s landscape photography as the heart of deconstructed disco balls. The mirror pieces on top of the landscapes reflect the viewer, drawing them into the work. This artwork asks the viewer to see themselves as part of a world in decline and take action to stop the rot.

Teague uses several colours of mirror to celebrate the spectrum found in nature while also reflecting his rainbow community and the pivotal role they play in making change happen. The mirror balls – a nod to LGBTQIA+ dance culture – are deteriorating, like the Earth. This suggests it is time to stop playing and start working on reversing climate change.
