Heir
Fringe Festival Hub: Rebecca Thomas
A pregnant therapist. A stranger in her office who seems to know things about her he shouldn’t.
A young man appears in a social services office, agitated, volatile, and demanding to speak to Edie, a heavily pregnant therapist known for treating young men ‘at risk’. He seems to know far more about her than he should. About her marriage, her thoughts, her unborn child. He’s fluent in the language of the Manosphere and uses it to spin a tale about her life – it’s one that she cannot quite believe, but also cannot quite dismiss.
Heir is a new Australian play about shifting modes of manipulation, inheritance, and the quiet ways violence travels between generations. It asks what a woman owes the child she is carrying, and what she owes the one in front of her.
Performed by Veronica Thomas and Aaron Wilson
Assistant Director – Clarisse Bonello
Stage Manager – Kara Floyd
Sound Designer – Zachary Camm
Dramaturg – David Gray
Photographer – Mark Gambino
Graphic Designer – Lliam Amor
