A play against hopelessness: democracy in action & how young people fight when the world is on fire
Do you ever get that feeling that nothing we do as politically engaged young people will ever have an impact on the decisions of politicians? Ever get a never-ending pit of rage that you put to the side, or maybe join a rally and shout at cops, or steal shit from woolies, or just play Doom until you feel better?
Maybe you don’t. But if you do Democracy Repair Services is intended as a gentle kiss, a hearty soup and a punching bag for all those feelings. A pointed look at youth engagement in politics and how young people fight when the world is on fire. It’s also about the endangered Bogong Moth.
In the middle of a scorching summer election campaign, four teenagers get together to change the course of history. Do we change the system from within or blast it open and create something entirely different?
Following a successful premiere at The Blue Room Theatre, this new work is written by 2021 WA Young Environmentalist of the year and 2023 Melbourne Fringe ‘Best Theatre’ Nominee Noemie Huttner-Koros.
