If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you always got.
– Steven C Hayes

A two day foundation course for musicians of all genres and levels of ability who are curious to learn about how psychological science can help them to perform closer to their practice room ability on stage, exams or auditions.

This will be an experiential course designed to encourage you to gently slide your toe a little out of your comfort zone in order to get your feet moving in the direction of the musical life that you care about.

You don’t need your instrument for this course or to even be ‘in practice’ or performance ready. You will experience and learn how to strengthen your attentional muscle, fine tune your motivation and distinguish what is under your control and what is not. We will learn how increasing your willingness to experience, maybe even welcoming uncomfortable feelings that turn up when you walk on stage could lead to more enjoyment and higher quality of performance.

This course is intended as an introductory course of empirically based psychological skills and is intended to be a pre-requiresite foundation course for future workshops that will involve playing your instrument or singing. The course is influenced by Flow Theory, Self Determination Theory, Compassion Focused Therapy and ACT Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Professional musicians, students hoping for a career in music as well as non-professionals who would like to enjoy performing again are all welcome.
