ABOUT GINA

Gina Perry is a freelance writer. She is author of the acclaimed ‘Behind the Shock Machine. The untold story of the notorious Milgram psychology experiments’ (Scribe) which has been published in Australia, America and the UK. Gina’s feature articles, columns, and essays have been published in The Age, The Australian and Best Australian Science Writing. Her short fiction has been published in a number of literary magazines, including Meanjin, Westerly, and Island. Her co-production of the ABC Radio National documentary about Stanley Milgram’s obedience experiments, ‘Beyond the Shock Machine’, won the Silver World Medal for a history documentary in the 2009 New York Festivals radio awards. Gina originally trained as a psychologist and her interest in the intersection of psychology and journalism is the topic of her PhD which she’s currently completing at the University of Melbourne.

How do you use your space?

“My room is my bolt hole. No phone, no internet and few interruptions. It’s a perfect space to get away from distraction and really focus. That doesn’t mean you won’t find me daydreaming or dawdling back from the local coffee shop but that all counts as part of the creative process as far as I’m concerned. I’m writing a new book at the moment so my room is a mess of papers, files, books and empty cups.”
